Cowane’s Trust Sponsors 2024 Stirling Walking of the Marches

The Cowane’s Trust is proud to announce its partnership with the 2024 Stirling Walking of the Marches as a sponsor of this important historic tradition in Stirling’s 900th year.

The Walking the Marches will take place on Saturday the 25thMay 2024, starting at 10.45am in the heart of the city centre, leaving from the rotunda at the bottom of Kings Street.

Lorne Scott, Master & Factor and Chief Operating Officer said, ‘the Cowane’s Trust are delighted to be a sponsor of the Marches, in this the 900th year of The Royal Burgh of Stirling and to play host to the lunch that follows in the magnificent Guild Hall’.

Before the procession travels through the city centre there will be an introduction from the Provost and Bellman, followed by a report from the Captain of the Birlawmen to confirm that the Marches have been inspected and are intact.

When arriving at the Smith Art Gallery a toast to the Marches will take place, before continuing up the ancient Back Walk to the Cowane’s Hospital grounds where the procession concludes with entertainment and the minister of the Church of the Holy Rude will conduct a blessing of the Guildry March Stone located in the gardens

The lunch following the Walking of the Marches will be held in the Guild Hall with this year’s speakers being Bill Hanson and Professor Richard Oram.  Tickets are priced at £25 per person and should be purchased by the 18th of April – to book a lunch ticket please contact stirlingmarches@outlook.com.  

The Walking of the Marches is a public celebration and open to all who wish to participate in this ancient part of the history and heritage of Stirling. In attendance will be the Provost of Stirling (also Chair of the Trust), the Dean of Guildry of Stirling, the Deacon Convenor of the Seven Trades of Stirling, local historians, and several other dignitaries.
