The Cowane’s Trust has successfully completed The Good Governance Award as recognised by OSCR. The Award recognises Third Sector organisations that demonstrate good practice in their governance and day-to-day operations.
The project was led by Nicola Cowie, Administration Officer for the Cowane’s Trust, whose attention to detail across all areas of the application shone through from start to finish.
The application was independently overseen by the Dundee Volunteer and Voluntary Action (DV&VA), whose aims are to ensure that the third sector (charities, social enterprises, community, and voluntary groups etc.) are robust, resilient and deliver exceptional quality in their services.
The DV&VA praised the Cowane’s Trust by stating ‘the Trust’s portfolio provided us with suitable evidence to accept that you operate with transparency, accountability, and effective leadership.’
Lorne Scott, Chief Executive Officer and Master & Factor for the Cowane’s Trust remarked ‘after two years of hard work, Scotland’s oldest charity are delighted to be recognised in this way. The charity world and third sector are forever changing and the Cowane’s Trust, with their historical pedigree, are ambitious in their modern evolution, ensuring that they are leading, not following.’
Lord Provost Elaine Watterson and Chair of the Cowane’s Trust welcomed the award stating ‘the drive and ambition shown by the Trustees and Staff have been second to none, and I am particularly delighted that Scotland’s oldest charity has been recognised in this way. The award is very much the industry’s seal of approval, and the Trust is delighted to have been fully recognised.’
