Originally from the St Ninians area of Stirling, Neil attended Stirling High School and Edinburgh University, graduating with an MA in politics and economic history.

Before being elected as a Councillor in 2007, he worked in retail management for a major national supermarket chain, and as a GIS consultant for a local company.

He served as Vice-President of Edinburgh University Union in 2003 and is currently the leader of the Conservative Group at Stirling Council.

Neil is a Stirling local, living in St Ninians, and is a keen motorcyclist and enthusiastic musician, with a love of craft beer and whisky.

Councillor Neil Benny was nominated to be one of five serving Councillor Patrons on the Cowane’s Trust by the Elected Members of Stirling Council Wards 4, 5, and 6 and has been a Trustee since 2007.
